Granola is healthy and delicious but can be so expensive to buy. Homemade granola is very simple to make and can be eaten with milk as a cereal, as a yogurt topping, or just by the handful!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/3 cup cooking oil

  • 1/3 cup honey

  • 5 cups old fashioned oats

  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

  • 1/2 cup powdered milk

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • pinch of salt

  • Optional add-ins before baking: Coconut flakes, flax seeds, pepitas, sunflower kernels

  • Optional add-ins after baking: Raisins, dried fruit, dates

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Mix the following in a large rectangular cake pan (11×15): Oats, nuts, powdered milk, cinnamon, salt, and any optional add-ins.
  • In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, oil, and honey. Heat and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Pour the sugar mixture over the dry ingredients and stir thoroughly.
  • Bake granola for 10 minutes.
  • Let granola cool completely in pan, stirring occasionally as it cools to prevent it sticking to the pan.
  • Stir in additional items after baking such as raisins or dried fruit. I added some freeze dried apple pieces to mine. Store cooled granola in airtight container.
