What was the cave of the field of Machpelah used for? Who bought it and how much did he pay for it?
Answer: The cave of the field of Machpelah was used as a tomb for several members of Abraham’s family. Abraham bought it from Ephron the Hittite for 400 shekels of silver when his wife Sarah died. (Genesis 23) Sarah, Abraham, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob and Leah were all buried there. (Genesis 23:19; 25:8-10; 49:31; 50:13)
