Answer: Shiphrah and Puah were Hebrew midwives living in the land of Egypt during the time of Israelite bondage. God blessed them with households of their own because they feared the Lord and refused to obey the command of the Pharaoh to kill the Hebrew baby boys at birth. (Exodus 1:15-21)
