Who was Sceva? What did his seven sons attempt to do and what was the result?
Answer: In Acts 19:14, we read that Sceva was a Jewish chief priest who had seven sons. These seven sons attempted to be exorcists of evil spirits as they had seen the apostle Paul perform such miracles in the city of Ephesus. (Acts 19:11-12) However, they did not meet with the same results as Paul did who was working by the power of God through the name of Jesus Christ. When they commanded an evil spirit to come out of a man, the evil spirit answered them by saying, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?” Then the possessed man attacked them so viciously that they fled from the house naked and wounded. Everyone in the city of Ephesus heard about this and as a result, they all feared and many believed in the Lord. This event can be found in Acts 19:11-20.
