Most of us are familiar with the story of David killing the giant Goliath in I Samuel 17, but did you know there was another man in the Bible who took on some giants? What was this man’s name, and how old was he when he fought the giants? What were the giants’ names?
Answer: Caleb, son of Jephunneh, was 85 years old when he defeated three giants. Their names were Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai. Caleb was one of two faithful spies who spied out the land of Canaan. In Numbers 13:33, the other 10 spies reported that there were giants in the land (the sons of Anak) and that the Israelites were like grasshoppers in their sight. In Joshua 14:6-15, Caleb asks Joshua for permission to take his inheritance of Hebron which is where the giants lived. Caleb knew the Lord would help him defeat the giants. In Joshua 15:13-14 we read the names of the three giants and Caleb’s success in defeating them.
