The Midianites

MP900177808The Midianites were one of the enemies of Israel in the Old Testament. From whom did the Midianites descend? Whose father-in-law was a priest of Midian? Which judge of Israel won a great victory against them?

Answer:   Midian was one of six sons born to Abraham and his concubine, Keturah whom he married after the death of Sarah. The Midianites and Israelites were related having both descended from Abraham. (Gen. 25:1-2) Moses’ own father-in-law, Reuel, was a Midianite priest. (Exodus 2:16-21) The Israelite judge, Gideon, won a great victory against a host of Midianites with only 300 men. (Judges 7)
